The RUSM & AMP Partnership
A Message From Ross University School of Medicine
Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) is proud to partner with the Advanced Medical Preparation (AMP) program to provide a unique pathway for qualified Indian students to pursue their dream of becoming a physician.
RUSM offers a comprehensive 4-year graduate entry medical program, with the first 20 months spent studying the medical sciences on our campus in Barbados, followed by 90 weeks of clinical rotations at affiliated teaching hospitals across the United States.
We chose to partner with AMP because of their focus on metacognition and critical thinking skills that are essential for success in medical education. The AMP program's methodology is backed by extensive research and has demonstrated effectiveness in preparing students for the rigors of medical school.
Upon completion of the AMP program, qualified students will have the opportunity to apply to RUSM and, if accepted, will join our diverse community of future physicians dedicated to advancing global health.

The Value Of Metacognition And Critical Thinking In Medicine
The Advanced Medical Preparation (AMP) program is built on over 65 years of research and practice in metacognition and critical thinking. Our approach emphasizes these essential skills that are crucial for success in medical education and practice.
Our program utilizes MedThinker technology, a validated methodology specifically designed for medicine. This approach has been extensively studied and has demonstrated significant value in developing both technical and non-technical medical skills.
Through our workshop format, students learn to approach medical problems with structured critical thinking, improving their diagnostic reasoning, clinical decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.

Why Metacognition Matters
Metacognition—thinking about one's own thinking—is a critical skill for physicians. It helps doctors:
- Recognize patterns in complex medical cases
- Avoid cognitive biases that lead to diagnostic errors
- Develop more effective clinical reasoning strategies
- Continuously improve through reflective practice
